Bikes Vs Scooters – Debate

The Bike vs Scooter debate has been going on for a while now and it will continue in the future. While bikes stand for power and endurance, scooters are considered convenient and easy to maintain. However, we are not comparing apples and oranges, We love them both. It all depends on our needs. Just like our country’s diversity, we have diverse needs. Hence, to minimize the confusion in your head, we are here to help you guys in identifying your requirements and suggesting which one should be best for you.
Let’s Start the Comparison on the Basis of these Staple Requirements:

1. Usage

Scooters are ideally used for quick short rides. The structure is made for ease in maneuverability, quick acceleration and lightweight, all these advantages make them suitable for everyone.
However, bikes are generally meant for longer distances. With features like shock absorbers, high engine capacity, powerful headlamps and a bigger fuel tank, bikes are more comfortable and preferred for long distance commutes.

2. Aesthetics

When it comes to aesthetics, bikes have a greater advantage over scooters. The muscular frame and graphics make them appealing to the youth.
Scooters are not too far in terms of looks Nowadays. Brands are emphasizing more on aesthetics by offering various fiber body, muscular contours, stylish headlamps and enhanced body graphics. Honestly, looks will be something which will matter a lot considering the competition in 2019 is very high, every vehicle you see on the road is meant to look appealing and unique to gain attention and eventual sales.

3. Convenience

The gearless operation in scooters is highly convenient and can be used by almost everyone in the family. The learning curve is very short and easy. It’s so easy anyone who can ride a bicycle can ride a scooter!

Bikes on the other hand have a more complex gear system. Beginners might be inclined towards using gearless scooters for their hassle-free usage. But then it is not that hard to learn to ride a bike once you start practicing. With due practice, one can learn riding a bike in no time. As for the hardcore biking enthusiasts, they would not mind pressing the clutch and shifting gears, as they crave for raw power and an adrenaline rush which comes from a bike.

4. Mileage

For cost conscious individuals like us, mileage plays a crucial role in determining whether to opt for a scooter or a bike. With ever-rising fuel prices, mileage offered by two wheelers is something which both manufacturers and consumers contemplate upon.

The mileage of a vehicle primarily depends on engine displacement. The size of the tires, riding conditions, usage habits and maintenance also play a critical role in determining the mileage.
Generally, a bike with similar engine capacity offers better mileage as compared to a scooter in general, due to its better fuel management, low power to weight ratio.

5. Storage

Scooters come with adequate storage space to store day-to-day things. With a front carrier, space near your feet and storage space beneath the seat (dickey), scooters hold an advantage over bikes in this regards. All this space makes a scooter more usable and practical vehicle.

Bikes too offer an option to add a side carrier, honestly in our opinion, it looks ugly and hampers the sleek aesthetic appeal of a bike.

6. Maintenance

Owning a bike is more expensive and soul destroying in terms of maintenance due to its complex mechanisms.

Scooters on the other hand have a simple structure which does not require much maintenance. Since they are meant for riding short distances, commuting for longer distances on bad roads might increase their maintenance cost and it is certainly not suggested.

7. Safety

While there is not much to differentiate in terms of safety, speed limit is probably the only deciding factor as a scooter can be considered safer as its top speed is less than that of a bike.

Also, the rider's feet are placed safely behind the body as compared to a bike where the legs are exposed. And of course, whether you choose to ride a scooter or bike, it is very important that you always wear a helmet and ride safely.

So, there it is guys. Choose your two-wheeler wisely and according to your needs and necessities. We know that the competition is very high among these brands in 2019 and will likely to increase in the near future. A lot of them are offering amazing features while being a great value for money. But basically, if it is convenience and ease of usage that you need, a scooter is for you, but if you seek thrill and adventure, go for a bike and you won’t be disappointed!
